About the role

We are expanding our Canberra operations and are looking to train and develop a new crew of recruitment professionals who can screen and shortlist applicants for specialist roles.

In this capacity you will work with expert recruitment managers and be responsible for:
  • Developing and posting job advertisements
  • Screening candidate applications for suitability
  • Conducting interviews
  • Managing job seekers through the use of a database
  • Proof reading and editing applications
  • Conducting reference checks
  • Managing compliance tasks
Skills and experience
This role would suit someone who is people savvy and can work outside of their comfort zone for long periods of time.

You must have high levels of EQ and be able to demonstrate the ability to read non-verbal cues and make effective decisions.

You will be closely assessed on your:
  • persuasive communication skills
  • IT skills in the area of CRM management, Microsoft Suite and Outlook
  • work ethic and ability leans new concepts quickly

Our ideal candidate will have experience in, or the ability to learn, the Aurion HRMIS to undertake the full range of pay processing.  In addition, a strong commitment to providing quality support to employees across the agency and contributing to process improvements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Payroll processing and administration (using Aurion)
  • Administering pay related elements of engagements, contract extensions and cessations
  • Providing pay and conditions advice
  • Interpreting and administering relevant employment legislation, and ACMA terms and conditions
  • Providing administrative support across other areas of human resources
  • Maintenance and documentation of key business processes

The role has accountability for the completion of allocated tasks, making decisions within the scope of the tasks allocated. They will contribute as required to team planning processes, projects and or initiatives, and ensuring service continuity in the section.

The role will be offered at the APS 5 level, commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills and experience.

Suitable candidates may be placed on a merit pool from this selection process and be used to fill similar ongoing or non-ongoing roles. Non-ongoing vacancies filled from a merit pool may be offered as a specified term. Applicants may have their application and assessment results shared with other Australian Public Service agencies looking to fill similar roles.

The Role
There is a huge opportunity to help small businesses by providing them with meaningful, operational and strategic HR support.

Your mandate as our People & Culture Consultant is to deliver all day to day HR matters for clients, ensuring you create amazing employee experiences.

No two days will be the same, and we will need you to hit the ground running. As such, you will need to come primed with a strong business acumen and empathy with small business owners to provide recommendations which are practical for their context.

About You
To succeed, you'll need to be:

  • able to build rapport and establish trust with clients quickly
  • curious about people - be understanding and interested in human experience
  • an active listener- asking great questions to draw out issues
  • driven more by outcomes than following process for process sake
  • in love with technology, someone who sees possibilities in technology which enable human connections

Key Responsibilities

  • Coaching and guidance to people managers to educate, mentor and advise around all aspects of people management and leadership (always aligning to the client organisations' purpose and values);
  • Providing HR advice and guidance on all routine employment matters;
  • Maximising the use of technology in service delivery through the HR and team systems(i.e. Employment Hero and Microsoft Teams);
  • Managing the delivery of employee surveys. In conjunction with knowledge of the organisational culture, you will be responsible for formulating strategies from the results and provide practical implementation guidance to clients.

Experience/Knowledge Required

  • Degree qualified in HR, Psychology or related field
  • Working knowledge of all HR practices (incl. strong employment law knowledge)
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications and e-HR systems
  • Genuine interest in using technology to enhance human experiences

What's the deal?

  • Part-time: 15 hours per week as a minimum. But we are open to up to 30 hours a week. The exact timing is generally flexible, noting we would appreciate some time on Tuesdays (when our small and mighty team crossover!) and also some coverage later in the week. But, let's talk about what also works for you!
  • Salary: $90-$100k maximum package (FTE incl. super)
  • Location: The team HQ - and many of our clients - are based in Canberra. We need you to be based in the Nation's capital as this role requires face-to-face client meetings.
  • Starting: we'd love you to start ASAP!
  • Other benefits: AHRI (or other relevant professional body) membership; and ongoing professional development that will enable the collection of career experiences that you are seeking.
